Take a walk on the Pre-Historic Side!

During the Pleistocene Epoch (about 17,000 years ago) almost one third of North America was covered with gigantic glaciers. These glaciers formed an enormous dam-like structure on what we now call the Clark Fork River, causing a mammoth collection of water, reaching 2,000 feet deep! Scientists still debate what happened next when the glaciers suddenly burst, causing a catastrophic flooding of the west. With more force than a space ship taking off, 500 miles of water and glacial ice crashed forward, annihilating everything in its path. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Wenatchee Valley.

Don't believe it? See it for yourself!

Located on a site of "Bed-load Erratics", the route to our geo-cache follows a pathway less traveled on a well-traveled trail. Our cache contains things that have historic value, such as geodes, insects entombed in clear "amber", polished river rocks, and various dinosaur species. There is also a Wenatchee Valley Ice Age Floods Geological Trail Map that maps out two different routes. One is 30 miles and one is 164 miles. It shows you the different geological formations in the area and explains how they were created. If the map is gone and you would like one, they can be located - free to take - at my home coordinates.
